If you’re craving an eerie night out in downtown Nashville, TN, US Ghost Adventures offers a chilling way to experience the city after dark. Their guided ghost tours wind through historic districts in more than 170 cities nationwide, uncovering restless spirits, tragic tales, and lingering legends. With just the right balance of thrills and atmosphere, these tours are spooky enough to raise goosebumps without going too far, making them a hauntingly fun option for families, couples, and groups.

We chose a Friday evening to go on our US Ghost Adventures tour in downtown Nashville. The weather was cold and rainy, but we dressed appropriately, complete with rain jackets and beanies, to keep us warm and cozy while we trekked through back alleys and around historic buildings. The downtown city vibe was perfect for the experience as we learned about hauntings, unexplained encounters, and long-standing ghost lore tied to the city’s past.

Tour Guide

Lorraine, our tour guide, was beyond friendly and knowledgeable. Her Ghost Adventures t-shirt made her easy to spot in Printer's Alley at the start of the tour, and she delivered a perfect blend of history and storytelling from beginning to end. I can’t imagine another person who would have made the whole experience as fun and enjoyable. She answered all of our questions and brought personality to an already immersive adventure.

Here are just a few of the many different historic locations we walked past, where Lorraine explained the eerie history behind their hauntings and how they became known as paranormal hotspots:

Atmosphere

We had never walked around downtown Nashville before, so the adventure was exciting from the very beginning. I was a bit worried at first about the number of people downtown and how they would potentially interfere with the tour, but this turned out to be a non-issue. Our tour guide was able to keep us engaged and on track without any distractions from the surrounding crowds.

EMF Reader

Our guide even gave us an EMF reader at the start of the tour and showed us how to use it. An EMF reader, often used on ghost tours, is a handheld device that detects changes in electromagnetic fields, which some believe can indicate paranormal activity when readings suddenly spike without an obvious source. The first couple of stops didn’t produce any unusual readings, but once we got closer to Broadway Street, around Merchant’s and Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, the red lights started flashing. And we could definitely feel the shift in energy ourselves as we walked through the area.

Parking

We weren’t familiar at all with downtown parking in big cities, so we weren’t sure what to expect or where to park. Much to our surprise, though, there was one parking spot behind Skull’s Rainbow Room (where the tour started) that we were able to grab. The payment process wasn’t something we were familiar with either. We had to type our license plate number into a screen, choose the number of hours we wanted, and then provide a credit or debit card. 

Parking reminder: the tour does not start and end at the same place

We assumed the tour would start and end at the same place, but it didn’t. The final stop was about one or two blocks away from the beginning (where we parked). This was perfectly fine with us because it allowed us to explore the city a bit more after the tour had finished.

Overall Value

We were fortunate enough to have our tickets for the ghost tour gifted to us, but I still approached the outing as if we had paid for it. Given that it lasted a full hour and included multiple stops with historical ghost stories tied to each one, I believe the experience is well worth the price, especially if you're looking for a fun way to explore downtown in a unique way that ties history with hauntings.

Local Dining Options

No downtown adventure is complete without delicious cuisine. Our guide was kind enough to tell us all about the local downtown dining options. There were several bars and restaurants along the tour that offered a variety of food and drinks. You could easily walk back to one of them after the tour if you wanted to extend the night. We chose to eat at a restaurant by our hotel, which was next to Opry Mills Mall, about 20 minutes from the tour.

Is Another Ghost Tour in Our Future?

This was the first ghost tour we had ever been on, but I don’t believe it will be our last. We're from a small town in Kentucky, and we don’t go to big cities that often, but the next time we do, we’ll definitely check out the local tour options with US Ghost Adventures. They provided a truly memorable introduction to downtown Nashville and its haunting past.
